Luigi Mayer (1755-1805) made a study of Egypt in paint. This is extremely rare, published between 1801-1803. It is an original etching but has extensive hand coloring by Mayer. It is framed, matted, covered with plexiglass and the image is 12 x 15. It is a first state and a first edition painting. It comes with a certificate of authenticity. The bulk of his paintings and drawings were commissioned by the British Ambassador to Turkey. He became well known for his sketches and paintings of panoramic landscapes of ancient sites from the Balkans to the Greek Islands, Turkey and Egypt, particularly ancient monuments and the Nile. The original is in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, nose still intact.
